The value of Langstone Technology Park to the local economy?
At Langstone Technology Park in Havant, we work tirelessly to achieve the highest level of customer service as well as introducing innovative and new facilities. It is this combination that we hope will attract new companies as well as help retain our existing occupiers. And given that we are full we must be doing something right. Elsewhere on our web site Shirley explains the disciplined, structured way we go about ensuring ‘business excellence’.
Meanwhile the Park must be good for the local economy of Havant ? 2,500 employees come through our doors daily. Many use local suppliers as well as spending disposable income in the town centre, using local leisure facilities, employing local childcare or using the transport system. The park creates employment as well as training opportunities.
At Langstone Fasset employ around 100 local staff at an annual cost of £2.3m; and last year we engaged with approximately 340 local contractors, with an investment of £6.1m. This means that Fasset added just shy of £8.5m of income in to the local economic pot. Multiply that to reflect our occupiers spend and you will quickly see the importance of retaining businesses here.
Retention at Langstone Technology Park means providing a place to work, where employers want to be, that provides all of the services and facilities they expect, and most of all giving value; and them trusting that the location will continue to deliver over and above everyone else. Martyn Randell’s blog about existing facilities and the plan for the future is worth reading. On my next blog I will talk about the process we have embarked upon to develop a hotel and family restaurant on land adjoining the park. This will create significant employment opportunities as well as a much needed budget hotel.
