Fasset was delighted to be the main sponsor of the inaugural Havant Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, organised by Alan Mak MP for Havant. I was equally delighted to be asked to organise the Fasset participation.

With over 50 companies taking part, the Fair was a great opportunity for local unemployed and soon to be school leavers to get an insight into the types of jobs and Apprenticeships that could be available in the local area. Most of the businesses and training organisations supporting this initiative were offering different incentives, advice and even some vacancies.

Fasset continues to support the local business community and support initiatives that focus on employability and workplace skills. We pride ourselves on being innovative, and I wanted to have some standout on the day, so I created an ‘employability’ quiz with a fantastic prize draw, hoping to entice people to take part.

The quiz was made up of five simple questions linked to writing a good CV, interview preparation and making a great first impression. Participants in return were asked for some contact information that we could possibly use for future recruitment purposes. Along with the quiz participants got an information pack with helpful hints and tips to help with job-hunting. The feedback was really positive, with one attendee saying it was some of the best advice she had been given!

On the day I had support from a brilliant cross-section of the Fasset team, talking to delegates about their personal experiences with employment and apprenticeships.

The programme of speakers was really interesting. Firstly, there was a representative from Pimlico Plumbers who spoke about Charlie Mullins OBE who went from plumbing apprentice to successful entrepreneur, secondly was Jane Hamilton, editor of ‘Sunemployment’; and finally Fasset’s own Gary Medlow (Managing Director) who alongside Alan Mak MP closed the Fair with some inspirational words. Everyone agreed it had been a really positive and successful event.

Since the Fair, Fasset has actually recruited someone that we met that day and have the CV’s and contact information available for future recruitment.
