Once again Fasset was delighted to support the Portsmouth Opportunities Fair – I can hardly believe it was a year since the last time!

This is such a fantastic initiative, developed to inspire and raise awareness of future work opportunities for students (aged 10 – 13). Over 100 diverse businesses and training providers from the area were there with a huge range of activities to engage the students - and it was brilliant.

The Fasset team once again were really supportive, energetic and enthusiastic. I asked a different selection of staff this year and luckily no arms needed to be twisted!

Continuing with the theme from last year, students were asked to ‘Take the Challenge…’ with a positive attitude test and handshake analysis….oh and there were giveaway goodies for all participants.

Over 140 students came to talk to us, take the challenge and find out what their score was and what it all meant. I think that many of us have a tendency to talk ourselves down and so being able to really focus on the positives with hints and tips was great and I hope it will make a difference.

As the HR Manager, I shake a lot of hands and really place a lot of value on the impression it makes on me. No one wants a limp, half-hearted shake; similarly no one wants their arm taken out of it's socket, so we were able to offer some tips for the perfect shake. The handshake is a great way of creating a good and lasting impression, so better to be firm and confident – fingers crossed they will remember this.

Our secret weapon this year was my colleague’s 13 year old son who brimmed confidence, talked to students and participated in the whole event. He really helped us see it from a student’s point of view – thanks Charlie!

A huge thanks to the Fasset team, who made all the difference on the day.

Until next year…
