As President of the Hampshire Health Safety and Environmental Group, it was my pleasure to host their 32nd one day Conference (a bi-annual event). Health and safety professionals across the region were invited to meet, network and learn from a panel of esteemed speakers from the field.

The day did not disappoint.

Over 70 delegates booked tickets in advance to ensure their place and it was a privilege to kick things off by introducing the Conference Patron, Mrs Sandy Hopkins – Chief Executive of both East Hampshire District Council and Havant Borough Council. The event was then officially opened by The Mayor of Havant, Marjorie Smallcorn who is no stranger to Langstone, always keen to support and promote local initiatives and issues.

The programe of excellent speakers kicked off with Dr Tim Marsh who to be honest, was one of the best speakers I have ever seen. He is renowned in the field of behavioral safety and safety culture and as ever was witty, interesting and insightful.

The programme of the day (attached) was of a very high standard. It covered everything from environmental leadership, liability and legal matters in relation to health and safety; OSH leadership and corporate sustainability.

I presented late in the day, talking about great leaders in the field of health and safety and the need to be decisive in relation to risk management to mitigate exposure. I sincerely hope that all of the delegates thought the event was well worth a day out of the office and the ticket price; I certainly did.

Atendee feedback results 1-3 from a scale of 1-5 (5 being exceptional, 1 being poor):

100% said presentation subjects were interesting;
97% said the conference was value for money.

We live in a world where corporate and individual liability is high on the agenda, where health and safety is paramount ; and sustainbility is the buzzword of themoment. The opportunity not just to hear eminent speakers, but also to network with professionals in the field was invaluable. HHSEG plays an important role in diseminating information, lobbying for change and leading the way in health and safety innovation.

The conference supports this important work and I am already looking forward to the next one.
